Hello Lumen Readers. Today, we have an interesting guest-post for our blog! Let me introduce you to Reverend Tomkin. Reverend Tomkin is going to expound on why he believes it is essential to have a professional photographer. I’ll let him explain his feelings on the matter:
“On his Facebook page, Evan once talked about what makes a wedding photographer great, and from my point of view, as a wedding officiant, I have a perspective that many brides and grooms don’t get until after their wedding day. I’ve been officiating weddings for over fifteen years, and while I am an amateur photographer, it’s not the photos I’m talking about, but the experience of using a great photographer.
Let me give you an example – on a wedding day when I arrive, I start chatting with the attendants, parents, and such, to see how things are going. I know the bride and groom well by that point, and the day before I had met all the attendants and parents and grandparents at the wedding rehearsal (or perhaps two days ago…it depends on the site.) Anyway, at this point, we’re all friends, we all know each other, and have fond feelings for each other, and so I want to check in and see how people are doing, but in a way that doesn’t cause any stress. So I might start a conversation with an innocent question, like, “How did the pictures go?” Well, it’s a huge difference I see…with some weddings where I’m the officiant, the reply is something like, “Real well, no problem. A few pics here, a few pics there, it went quickly and really well”, but at other times, wow…the father of the groom or the mother of the bride or the bridesmaid or whoever I’m talking too will suddenly get a weary look on their face and answer something like, “Uh, well, it was really long”. And then I see that the photographer must not have been an experienced one, because a real pro has everything going smoothly, taking a few shots of each pose, handling everything in an easy and experienced manner, and managing all their equipment with ease and grace. Now, photography can be taught, but nothing takes the place of many, many weddings under a photographer’s belt, having done so many weddings that what might be a big issue to someone else (“Where is that memory card?”) becomes routine (“The second of four memory cards is in the left pocket of the small grey case, in the second-to-last slot…just like it always is.”) So, from my perspective, it’s worth it to get a photographer that charges what they’re worth, so they’re not learning on the job, and so not only do you get great pictures, but from my point of view, what’s also really important is that with an experienced wedding photographer, so your wedding day goes smoothly and easily!”
A big thanks to Reverend Tomkin for taking the time to write this and give us his opinion. If you’re looking for a someone to officiate your wedding, I’d highly recommend checking him out because, as Reverend Tomkin mentioned, experience in the wedding industry is essential making everything run smoothly and, most assuredly, Reverend Tomkin has just that.
