As you may or may not know, I am an avid thrifter and antiquer.  I love finding, re-purposing, and scrounging neat things that are either forgotten or not cared about anymore.  On one of my recent trips I came across this vintage wedding book from the 1950s.  It was made specifically for the Minneapolis market and has a lot of old Minneapolis vendors (may of whom are no longer in business unfortunately)  For example, Gene Garret Studio was bought by the Schnacks, a husband and wife team.  Even through two generations of photographers, they have closed their doors.

One of the most interesting things about this book is that it is specifically for brides and it reflects the time period that it came from in both language and disposition towards household duties.  Obviously, and in my opinion for the better, times have changed and so have gender norms.  That being said, it’s a neat blast from the past to see what has changed and what has stayed the same.  Some things like the photo list, look comporable to what they would today.  On the other hand, language referring to “wifely duties” is seriously outmoded.
